In 1981 Fender hired new management under whom marketingmanager Dan Smith. Under his leadership the design of the Stratocaster went back to the pre-CBS period (’54 till ’65). Among things back to the smaller headstock, four bolt neckplate and trussrod at the heal of the neck. The real “Dan Smith” Standard Stratocaster was made between 1981 and 1983. In 1983 the design changed to the two knob version with the jack input on the normal third knob spot. You see a lot of listings on Reverb calling the “two-knob” a Dan Smith, but that is incorrect.

So here I have a real Dan Smith Strat from 1982. With the hotter X1 pickup in the bridge position. This guitar sounds really great, perhaps the best sounding Strat that I ever had. It has the famous bell tone. 40 years old it has some aging marks, that give it even more character. Strats from the 70s and early 80s are heavy. Fender did this to enhance sustain of the guitar. This guitar is 4.375 Kg.

It comes with the original case of which the lining is missing.
